If you're seeking a build method that's energy efficient, simple to use, fast to construct, and cost-effective - British-manufactured Ecobrix woodcrete ICF is the answer.
Meets all current and upcoming building regulation requirements. BBA certified, LABC approved, fire-tested to four hours.
Ecobrix woodcrete ICF delivers advantages across every measure that matters to a modern build - cost, performance, sustainability, and speed.
U-values of ≤0.15 W/m²K without additional insulation
Insulation is external to the concrete core, wrapping the full wall envelope. The thermal mass effect means heat stored in the wall is released back into cooler air, slashing heating bills. Average PSI values of 0.04–0.08. SAP calculations are far more sensitive to PSI values than to U-values - Ecobrix's excellent junction performance can reduce reliance on renewables entirely.
Tested to 240 minutes at 1100°C
Woodcrete will not burn or rot. The mineralisation process during manufacture ensures this. Ecobrix holds a 90-minute certified fire rating but has been tested to four full hours at 1100°C to BS476: Pt 20. This considerably exceeds UK regulations and European fire standards - critical for multi-storey residential and commercial projects.
Up to 30% cheaper than traditional masonry
British manufacturing locks in stable pricing - no currency exposure, no import delays. Faster build programmes reduce labour and finance costs on top of direct material savings. A low-slump concrete mix can be poured at temperatures that would halt conventional brick and block laying, eliminating weather-related downtime.
60% recycled wood - carbon captured permanently
An average 3-bed semi built from Ecobrix contains 10 tonnes of recycled wood - old pallets and offcuts that would otherwise release carbon in landfill. Once mineralised and encased in cement, that carbon is locked in permanently. Units are manufactured at room temperature with no additional energy requirement. Net carbon cost approaches neutral.
No specialist trades, no propping required
Units dry-stack directly onto the foundation - the weight of the blocks provides stability with no propping required. Suitable for experienced contractors and first-time self-builders. Works in all weather conditions. Chasing for electrics and plumbing is fast with a powered circular saw. All flooring systems and most external finishes are compatible.
Significant concrete mass reduces sound transmission
The concrete mass within a Durisol wall system, used in conjunction with appropriate finishes, provides excellent reduction in airborne and impact sound transmission. Limestone grit is added to internal wall units specifically to enhance acoustic properties - ideal for terraced housing, apartments, hotels and mixed-use developments.
Specially graded recycled waste wood is chipped into fibre, mineralised, and bonded with Cem 1 cement. The mix is moulded and stamped into the full range of unit shapes, then filled with PIR insulation. Limestone grit added to internal wall units improves acoustic properties.
The result: porous, lightweight, durable. Woodcrete does not rot, does not decay, is vermin and insect proof, will not support fungal growth, and is fully recyclable. No plastic. No foam. No polystyrene - unlike competing polystyrene ICF products.
First manufactured in Austria in 1947, the Durisol woodcrete system has been used for thousands of builds internationally and in the UK - including large-scale commercial projects exceeding 20 storeys.
Now manufactured exclusively at our factory in Bedwas, South Wales. British production means complete quality control, consistent standards, and minimal lead times with pricing unaffected by currency fluctuation.
